Found Dogs
By Law - all found dogs must be reported to the authorities.
Never assume it has been dumped because it was no longer wanted, dog theft has dramatically increased in this country. It could have been dumped by the theives miles away from where it was stolen.
Be very careful, your safety is paramount, the dog may be injured or terrified and may bite.
In the absence of a lead - secure the dog with a belt, scarf, rope.
Take the dog to the nearest open vets, they will scan for an ID chip at no charge.

If all avenues have been explored and no owner can be located, the dog can stay with the finder. After 28 days the finder then becomes the legal keeper. However please ensure you have followed all of the correct procdures and signed the relevant paperwork.
Found Cats
If the cat requires urgent medical treatment, please contact the RSPCA to gain a Log number, they will also advise on what to do.
Where the cat does not require medical treatment, if possible bring the cat into the surgery and we can scan for an ID chip.
