Puppy vaccinations

DHPPi is for Canine Distemper, Hepatiti and Parvo virus

L4 is for Leptospirosis, a rat transmitted disease

New puppies require a full course of DHP and Leptospirosis 4 before venturing out into the world.  The timing of these vaccinations is determined by their age at commencement, they can start at 6 weeks old.

The second DHP cannot be given before the puppy is 10 weeks old.  One week after this vaccination the puppy can start to be socialised with other vaccinated dogs.

The second part of the Leptospirosis 4 vaccine must be given at exactly 4 weeks after the first one.  Only when this course has been completed is it safe to take your puppy near any standing or flowing water.

Your vet will advise the exact timings with you.

The kennel cough vaccine is not routinely given.  Your dog will need this if it is going into kennels, some professional dog walkers ask that your dog is vaccinated for this.

After this initial course your new puppy will require annual vaccinations, you will be sent a reminder to make an appointment during which your dog will also have a general health check including heart, weight etc.
